Westchester County, New York, Child Support Attorneys
When child support issues stand in the way of a smooth resolution of your divorce, it is important to work with a skilled attorney. At The Penichet Law Offices, P.C. in White Plains, we have 30 years of legal experience. Our knowledgeable attorneys are dedicated to achieving the best possible results for clients seeking child support to best provide for their families.
The New York State Child Support Guidelines
In New York, child support levels are often determined by family court officials called support magistrates. The officials use a standard guideline to help establish the amount of support to be paid by the noncustodial parent. Generally, this is based on the noncustodial parent's income and the number of children involved. Support can include cash payments, payment of health insurance for the child and other health care costs, and child care payments.
Enforcement and Modification of Child Support
As a boutique firm, we work closely with our clients to understand their goals and meet their needs. We can help parents collect overdue child support (also called arrears). We can also represent parents who are accused of not paying the proper amount of support.
If you have received notice of an administrative action for collection of child support that you owe, you must take it seriously. You may face income execution, where child support is deducted from your wages. Your federal and state income tax refunds can be intercepted and your name submitted to consumer credit reporting agencies. Financial assets, like your bank accounts, may be seized. Your driver's license can be suspended and the United States might refuse to issue you a passport.
That is why you need an experienced lawyer. At The Penichet Law Offices, P.C., we have been selected by The New York Times as the top attorneys in the New York Metro area in the area of family law. We are recognized in the Best Lawyers in America and are AV®-rated* under Martindale-Hubbell's peer review system.
